For us, it is about consistency, passion, commitment and never selling out. This brewery is our family legacy, built by us, on our own little piece of paradise.

FAMILY BREWERY
The Standeaven Brewery is a family owned Micro Brewery based on the Standeaven family’s farm, situated in Alverstone, just outside of Hillcrest, 25 kilometres from Durban. Renowned for brewing exceptional craft beer. Brew Master Shaun Standeaven launched his first range of craft beers in 2012, and has gone on to add new beers to his range each year.
The Standeaven Brewery was an idea that sparked while brewer Shaun Standeaven was traveling abroad and tasting different beers from around the globe. What started as a fascination with the different worldwide styles soon became an intense study of perfection and once he arrived home on Durban soil he started experimenting with craft brewing.
This is how ‘The Odd Beer’ signature style has developed and is his passion and expression in a product. This hand crafted and bottle conditioned beer contains zero preservatives and additives. Is naturally carbonated, unpasteurized, unfiltered and matures with age.
One can enjoy the range of ‘Odd Beer’s’ such as the Bohemian Pilsner, African Pale Ale, Press Club Stout, Hefeweizen, Best Black Gold and Lager X at a variety of restaurants, markets and festivals around the country. The Standeaven Brewery’s ultimate vision is to be one of the household names of the craft brewing industry in South Africa.

Naturally soured by farm valley winds blowing wild yeast into our oak casks. Finally, after a year and a half of patient coaxing Wisconsin dark malts whirl in a kaleidoscope of cedar, caramel and tart green plum exuberance.
